Have a look at this experiment carried out as part of a science project by a boy in the USA. How does this link in with what you are learning about Osmosis?
In which straw will the level of fluid have risen up the most ?
Student wins science fair by osmosis

Half of the students at Pine Strawberry Elementary School participated in the school's science fair in hopes of taking home the grand prize -- a telescope.
Carol La Valley/RoundupCaleb Paine won the Grand Prize telescope in Pine-Strawberry Elementary School's science fair.
First-grade student, Caleb Paine, beat out 64 other budding scientists, with his project on osmosis.
The hypothesis: An egg membrane will soak up whatever liquid it is sitting in.
Paine got the idea from a book.
He needed three raw eggs with the outer shell removed from one end and the membrane left intact.
"My mom got pretty good at peeling the eggs," Paine said.
But peeling eggs was the only thing she helped him do.
Paine inserted straws in the end of the egg then sealed the ends with clay.
Next he placed one egg in a jar filled with water, one in salt water and one in Coke.
He checked the level of fluid in the straws every waking hour over the next two days and charted the fluid's gradual rise.
"The science fair was fun and I learned that an egg membrane is semi-permeable," he said.

This post links to our topic of Osmosis because it's all about water passing through the egg's semi-permeable membrane until equilibrium is reached.
In the diffrent jars there will be diffrent effects ;
In the salt solution water molecules will move from the egg to the salt solution because there is a higher concentration of salt outside the egg.
In the coke again water molecules will move from the egg to the solvent because there is a higher concentration of sugar in the coke than in the egg.
But in the water molecules will move from the water into the cell through it's membrane because there is a higher concentration of water in the solution than the egg.
Glad to see that someone has blogged!
Remember when you are putting in your answers that osmosis is concerned with WATER concentrations.
i Think that the jar with pure water will have risen up the most because the eggs that are in the coke and salt solution have a higher water concentration than them and because osmosis is a special type of diffusion which only works for water. The water molecules from the eggs(higher water concentration) will diffuse into the salt solution or the coke (lower water concentration)
However, the egg that is in the pure water has a lower water concentration so the pure water(higher water concentration) will diffuse into the egg(low water concentration)which causes the fluid in the straw to rise.
i think the jar with the pure water will have rissen up the most because the egg that is in coke and salt will have a higher water concentration the water molecules from the egg will difuse into the coke or the saltbut he egg that is in pure water concentration will difuse into the egg which causes the fluid in the straw to rise.
I think that the straw in the pure water solution will have risen up the most because osmosis can only happen with water. The water molecules will move from the water (HWC)to inside the egg through it's membrane (where there is a LWC)
I think the straw in the jar with the egg in pure water will risen the most because osmosis is the movement along a concentration gradient from higher water concentration to lower water concentration through a selectively permerable membrane. And it can also only work with water so the the particles would move from the jar with pure water which has a high water concentration to the egg then appear in the straw unlike the jar with salt solution and the jar with coke which has a low water concentration.
Good to see these comments...you are obviously absorbing the leson objectives (is this osmosis of knowledge, or just simple diffusion of facts !) BUT>>>>>
some of you are yet to post we will be looking for your contributions very, very soon.

Sorry, spot the spelling mistake...it should have been LESSON in the last post
